An art essential & EDM#131

new-8EDM#131 - Draw a spray bottle.

I keep a little spritzer bottle at hand when painting, indoors, outdoors, big, little - at hand. When I go bicycling I feel practically naked without my clip on eyeglass mirror (m-m-m, I’ll have to draw that sometime) and I feel the same sense of unpreparedness when caught without my little spritzer.

I love this tool because water can be sprayed directly onto the page, onto a cloth or sponge to then dab on the page or canvas, and it is always ready to refresh the paint tray or even a little touch to the end of a loaded brush to control degrees of wet and dryness. When spraying onto a page or canvas it’s surprising the amount of control one can get by varying the direction of the spray (100% on, 50% off etc), the height or space between the nozzle and the object being zapped, the number of times one sprays at/on the target. Best of all, you can get one at the “dollar” store.

I didn’t set out to do EDM # 131 but was inspired to pay homage to my little spray bottle this morning after visiting The Artistic Biker and reading his “experimenting with a glue monster.

    Hmmm, I don’t have one of those. Gonna have to start a dollar store shopping list.

    Nice one, Owen. This has a very graphic quality to it, and jumps off the page (screen?)

    Hey Jeff, spritzer bottles can be jumpy things which is why I always try to keep two nearby. They do have legs. {wink}

    I’ve been enjoying your pencil artplay.

    This is a nice drawing of a great and simple tool! I always wet my paper with brushes and because sometimes the amount of water is too much, and it creates all these wrinkles on the paper, which I don’t really want. :) What an enlightenment!

    Yes, the dollastough can be a place of inspiration. Spray away Alex, spray away. {smile}

    Wow, I have been missing out! I would usually use my brush rinsing water when I needed a quick hydration, of course then there was a little pigment where I didn’t want it. A spray bottle! What a revelation! I am so getting one!
